about the artist

Vanita Gupta has devoted her attention to the minimal, most relevant and perenially compelling forms. Known primarily for her signature paintings in black, her work continues to evolve into sculpture and film.

Her video work the “balloon trilogy” featured in the 16th international Media art WROBiennale 2015, Wroclaw, Poland. She has been awarded fellowship grant 2014-15 by Asian cultural council, New York , to observe the contemporary art practice in New York, visit museums and galleries and meet curators. In 2014 she was awarded the Pollock Krasner foundation Grant, New York. She was at an artist residency in Vermont studio centre, USA in 2014. She was a recepient of the Raza Award, India for excellence in art in 2008.

Vanita has been widely exhibiting her work nationally and internationally. She has had four solo shows with Pundole art gallery, the latest being in 2013 exhibiting her new body of sculptures. In 2012 her video works were selected by “Videoholica international video art festival”, Varna Bulgaria. Her solo exhibition was presented in London in 2008 by Pundole art gallery in collaboration with Rob Dean art, London. In 2006 her solo show was presented at Singapore Art Fair.

Vanita lives and works in Mumbai.
